story of fine art photographer Francoise V grassroots beginnings it all became with a deep-rooted love for africa and a broken camera

Grassroots Beginnings

IT ALL BEGAN WITH A DEEP-ROOTED LOVE FOR AFRICA AND A BROKEN CAMERA.

My journey as a fine art photographer—capturing nature, wildlife, culture, and the beauty of the human spirit—began deep within the heart of Botswana, where I was unbelievably lucky to grow up. With a mother who had an unquenchable thirst for adventure, our lives were a continuous exploration of the wild and the rural. With each road trip, she would toss me into the car, and we would set off into the untamed beauty of the African landscape, where nature's wonders awaited us at every turn.

As a child, with boundless enthusiasm and curiosity, I was constantly in complete awe of the extraordinary majestic creatures that roamed Africa’s plains and the simplistic beauty that nature offered. The patterns and intricate details created by mother natures designs.  The rich diversity of different cultures, and the resilience of its people all captured my heart.

In today's fast-paced world, it is in returning to these places that life slows down, allowing me to reconnect with the child in me, who is present in the moment, filled with excitement and wonder. This is my happy place.

My love for photography began at a very young age, the first time I held a real camera. My American neighbours owned a beautiful yet broken camera they graciously let me play with. To my delight, they eventually gifted it to me, and little did they know that this gesture would ignite the first spark of my passion for photography. Though the camera didn’t work, looking through the viewfinder opened my eyes to new perspectives; it determined what I focused on and how I began to see the world around me.

With an eager desire to travel and explore, I eventually bought a little camera of my own. I set off documenting my adventures around the world, teaching myself as much of the craft as I could along the way. Yet, it was when I returned to Africa—the place that beats in my soul—that I truly dedicated myself to studying photography, mastering the art that would help me express my vision.

Each photograph I take today is a tribute to that cherished childhood curiosity. My work aims to capture the essence of the world around me and share the stories that resonate deeply within my heart—stories of love, resilience, and the breathtaking beauty of life itself. Through my lens, I hope to convey just a glimpse of the wonders I have seen and the profound experiences that have shaped who I am.
